Art
Creativity is intelligence having fun! – Albert Einstein
Intent:
At Oakington Manor Primary school, we believe that it is our responsibility to develop the ‘whole child’ and through Art we give every child the opportunity to express their individuality and to think creatively. We create a safe and supportive environment where all children can confidently experiment, invent and create. While learning about historical events, geographical facts or social skills during PSHE children will be taught art techniques and skills through an immersive creative curriculum. We believe it is important for children to be engaged, inspired and challenged throughout all lessons and think the wider skills gained during Art lessons are important for the children now and in the future.
Curriculum Implementation:
- Our bespoke curriculum inspires children’s creativity, engages them in practical activities from many cultures and periods of history.
- Children are encouraged to critically evaluate their own and other peoples work.
- Assemblies and displays showcase and build confidence in pupils’ skills so they truly appreciate the artistic side of their characters.
- Engaging with local projects and businesses fuels their creativity and extends their understanding of how art and design can influence the culture and history of a nation and its people.
Curriculum Impact:
Our Creative Curriculum planning is robust, well thought out and is geared to demonstrate progression. If children are making good or better progress it shows children are succeeding creatively. In addition, we measure the impact of our curriculum through the following methods:
- A reflection on standards achieved against the IPC key objectives.
- A celebration of learning for each IPC topic ends in an EXIT POINT where children showcase their learning throughout the topic.
- Pupil discussions about their learning; which includes discussion of their thoughts, ideas, processing and evaluations of work.
Art and design is not just a subject to learn, but an activity that you can practice with your hands, your eyes, your whole personality. – Quentin Blake, children’s Illustrator
