Lego Therapy
How do we use Lego® Therapy at Oakington?
It is a Social skills programme for children with autism and other social/communication difficulties and it helps make a more ‘school friendly’ approach.
It is based on the notion that Lego® is a systematic toy which is appealing to many children with or without autism.
We find it provides students with a motivating environment in which they can practice skills such as:
turn-taking, sharing, following social rules and verbal and non-verbal communication.
We have found that this Therapy is extremely effective in helping children with specific needs to develop social and verbal development. As Attwood said in 1998, it uses " children’s natural interests to promote the development of social, communication and play skills.”
