School Council
All about Our School Council
At Oakington Manor School our pupils have an important role to play in issues that affect the children themselves. We value the opinions and suggestions made by pupils and encourage them to be responsible members of our school community. Two representatives from each class are chosen by their peers. Each key stage has a School Council box, where children can put their ideas and suggestions to make the school a better place. The School Council discusses the ideas and presents them to the Senior Leadership Team.
Minutes are taken during each meeting; these minutes are then forwarded to Ms Singh and the School Governors.
This year the school councillors met as a whole to meet each other and discuss any initial ideas. The children were given the task to produce a poster detailing the role of the school council. Take a look at some of our posters.
School council activities planned this year:
- Local democracy week workshops and talks
- Visit to Brent Civic Centre
- Smile Day
- Christmas Jumper Day
- Stall at the Christmas bazaar
Do you have any ideas? Be sure to tell one of the school councillors!
KS1 School Council
KS1 school council are a wonderful group of year 1 and year 2 students who are excited about being selected as school councillors this year. They have already come up with a selection of different ideas that they cannot wait to discuss at the next school council meeting. The school councillors act as a voice for all of the children in KS1 and they have collected some ideas from their friends in their classes. The council notice board is located in the KS1 corridor opposite the ICT suite where you can have a look at all the latest information.
The KS1 council are also eager to let KS1 know that they are also around if anyone needs help or just needs a buddy in the playground. Don’t hesitate to approach them, they are a lovely group of representatives. You can tell who they are by the school council badge they wear.
The KS1 school council is run by Mrs Mandalia.
KS2 School Council
KS2 School Council consists of children from Years 3-6 including some children from the LCC unit. KS2 School Councillors have a busy year ahead as they will be discussing the many issues that affect the children of Oakington Manor. The school councillors act as a voice for all of the children in KS2 and they have collected some ideas from their friends in their class.
They have been learning how to run an effective meeting with councillors taking on different roles in each meeting such as: chairperson or secretary.
They are hoping to organise charity events and work with KS1 councillors to come up with great inventive ideas that will benefit the whole school community.
The KS2 council notice board is located along the Year Three corridor next to the meet the staff display. Here you will find the names of pictures of the school councillors and all the up to date information.
The KS2 school council is run by Ms Enas.
